As a leading facilitator of conveyancing services, Home Legal Direct is proud to announce its transition to employee ownership. Based in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, the company was founded in 2017 by Peter Joseph and Oliver Meddick, and has since supported thousands of movers across England and Wales with their property transactions. Majority ownership is now held by an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), securing the long-term stability and growth of the business.
Oliver Meddick, co-founder and Chief Operations Officer of Home Legal Direct, said:
“Becoming employee-owned was a natural progression for us. It not only secures the future of Home Legal Direct but also puts our employees at the heart of the business. After considering various succession options, we decided that the EOT model provided the best benefits for both us selling shareholders and the wider team. We look forward to continuing to deliver exceptional service to our clients under this new structure.”
Home Legal Direct received legal guidance throughout the process from Myerson Solicitors, particularly Terry Moore and Simon Nolan, which played a key role in ensuring a smooth transition. Terry Moore, Partner in the Corporate Team at Myerson adds: “We are thrilled to have assisted Home Legal Direct in their conversion to employee ownership. This decision not only secures the long-term growth, values, and autonomy of the business but also reinforces their commitment to a supportive and inclusive workplace culture by placing ownership in the hands of an Employee Ownership Trust for the benefit of all employees.”
Employee Ownership Trusts (EOTs) were established under the Finance Act 2014 to promote employee ownership as a viable business model in the UK by offering a range of beneficial tax reliefs. With this step, Home Legal Direct joins the growing number of over 1,800 businesses in the UK that are majority employee-owned, contributing to a more sustainable, collaborative, and resilient business environment.
